Teaching experience:
I have been tutoring for over six years, and teach a wide range of subjects, primarily Maths and Sciences at KS3, GCSE and A Level. I also tutor 11+/13+ entrance exams as well as exam preparation, BMAT and Oxbridge application and interview preparation.
Teaching style & philosophy:
As a medical student, I have a great interest in research surrounding mental health as well as organisation, which has helped me in my tutoring lessons, as I think my responsibility as a tutor stretches further than simply presenting the content of the syllabus, and encompasses acting as part of a support network for students to discuss the difficulties in their learning and assist them in finding ways to combat and resolve them.
My approach to lessons is very student-centred, with the objective to focus our time on specific sections of the curriculum that are causing them problems, and making sure to use our time together as effectively as possible in order to improve their performance and confidence with any given topic. In particular, I like to begin my focusing on improving high-yield content, not only does this make the student feel more confident in themselves as they see improvement almost instantaneously, but also instills confidence in my ability as a tutor from the parents perspective. This is evident by my some of the testimonials I have received from clients:
GCSE Science student:
'Alex did an amazing job forming a good relationship with Oscar during the very first session (which is key to Oscar’s commitment and motivation), so there is zero resistance from Oscar’s side. He actually enjoys the sessions and tells us that he understands things, especially, chemistry very fast compared to when it’s explained at school. We added two more sessions to the summer plan and Alex is pretty confident they will manage to cover most of Oscar’s knowledge and understanding gaps in math and sciences. Thank you so much for finding such a great matching tutor for Oscar - it makes all the difference.'
11+ student:
'Alex is amazing, Gabriella is very happy.Have not seen a child pick up from school happy, hoping the lessons was longer. With Alex classes and Gabriella is positive, happier and more exciting. As a parent am very happy. So as Gabriella.'
Year 7 Science student:
'My son is not likely to be happy about studying during the summer vacation, but he seems to enjoy your classes and is excited, saying "Wow!!! Today is Mr Alex class!". Thank you for providing such enjoyable lessons.'
GCSE science student:
'Just to say an immense thank you for all the work you did with Iris last week. She went to school yesterday and was held back after science by her teacher and praised for being so on the ball and making so much effort. I think you really helped her to understand some concepts she was feeling shaky on and she told me it was so helpful.'
GCSE Science student:
'Dear Alex - well you really made a difference! Thank you. I can’t quite believe that she is now saying she “loves science” after such a brief spell (she has a great teacher at school but historically she has floundered and not enjoyed it).'
Additional information:
I am a fifth year medical student and I also spend a lot of my spare time involved in the performing arts, which has meant I've developed great communicable skills that allow me to connect quickly and effectively with students from our first lesson, which is so integral to the student-tutor rapport going forwards.
I am based in North West London, and am available to teach online as well as in person across Central, North and West London during the week, on weekends and during school holidays.
