Teaching experience:
In 2022-23 I tutored 12 students in English and History from 11+ to Undergraduate level across Scottish, English and international exam boards. In 2018 I worked as a nanny for three boys aged 4, 7 and 9 where I was required to help with homework and take them on educational trips. I have also provided essay help for students at undergraduate and masters level.
Teaching style & philosophy:
I start by identifying the enthusiasms of the tutee and help them to feel more autonomous in their learning by approaching the work through the overlap between the subject and their interests. I create lesson plans according to the student’s needs;focusing in on the aspect of the subject with which they need help;whether that’s textual or source analysis, research techniques or essay-writing skills.
My passion is close-reading;this skill is foundational to any area of study or place of work and crucial to an engagement with contemporary media. I hope all my tutees move forward with a greater interest in what texts are doing and why. I am also invested in helping students develop their minds beyond the requirements of the syllabus, encouraging a curiosity about the world which will serve them both in education and beyond.
Additional information:
I have previous experience as a nanny and later volunteered as a mentor with Refugee Resource, for which I received safeguarding training. I am therefore able to work with younger-years students and with young people learning in a second language.
I am an actor and graduated from the Oxford School of Drama a couple of years ago.
I am based in Brixton (SW2) and willing to teach online or within a reasonable distance.
