Teaching and tutoring experience
A professional tutor with 7 years’ experience. I have a particular specialism in SEN tuition. Having grown up with ADHD and dyspraxia, I am uniquely placed to support students with neurodiversity. I have helped many students with ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia find coping strategies that mitigate their symptoms greatly. Testimonials are available to support this work. I have also specialised in early years tuition, preparing many students for the 7+, 8+, 10+ and 11+. I am a very patient tutor who is adept at ensuring students remain focussed, while not feeling overly restricted. I have helped students get into top schools at 11+ and 13+, including but not limited to Eton, Harrow, Westminster, St Pauls (Boys and Girls schools), Godolphin, Charter House, Emmanuel, Dulwich and Wycombe Abbey. I have supported students successfully through a range of GCSEs where students have almost without fail exceeded their predicted grades, with the majority hitting A*/8 or 9 grades. I have also provided Oxbridge Application support to a number of 6 th form students in History, with my mentees gaining places at Balliol, Trinity, Jesus and Catz in Oxford and Magdalene, Downing and Kings’ in Cambridge.
Teaching style and philosophy
I believe in guiding the student by asking questions, rather than simply telling them what they should and should not do. I think this creates a much deeper level of understanding, as students come to their own conclusions - and are merely steered by the tutor, rather than being totally controlled. Since much of my tutoring the in past has been in History, storytelling plays a large part in this. Similarly, I endeavour to keep lessons fun and therefore games form a significant part of my pedagogy. Essentially I believe that students are much more likely both to retain information and gain the tools needed to create connections and work things out for themselves, if their learning is active and exciting, involving a two- way engagement between teacher and student.
Additional information
Alongside tutoring, I am a working professional actor and a chef. I trained at the Oxford School of Drama, graduating in 2022. The school is highly selective, with an acceptance rate of c. 2% and has recently been named as one of “The Top Five Drama Schools in the World” by the American company Acting in London. I also work part time as a chef de partie at Wild By Tart in Belgravia, where I can usually be found running the grill section. I am permanently London based and usually able to travel to students’ houses for lessons. Being an actor serves me very well as a tutor, as it helps me to keep lessons engaging and dynamic and helps me to get sometimes reluctant students to buy into the learning process. I am also a very keen sportsperson and cook, and an avid Chelsea fan.
