Teaching history:
I started tutoring in 2020, with GCSE Maths and Physics, meeting with two students once a week for an hour. I then progressed to A-level Maths and Chemistry, helping two differewnt students roughly twice a week for an hour. This personalised support contributed to every student exceeding their target grades.
I have also assisted a student with preparation for the UCAT and BMAT admission examinations, specifically the numerical reasoning section. I met with this student every day for the two months leading up to the examination, and ended with their acceptance into a Russel Group University.
Additional teaching experience:
IB Chemistry: Support with data analysis and writing the report for their IA. Revision for mock exams focusing on weak areas and past questions. Provided homework, mainly exam questions which we go through in the following lesson.
IGCSE Maths and Physics (exam year): General support with content learned in lesson, and revision for content learned in year 10. Focused on understanding with some past exam questions. Provided homework each lesson.
Mock interviews: Delivered mock interviews to over 15 different students applying for Oxford Physics and Cambridge Natural Sciences (Physical). Gave detailed reports for areas of improvement.
Level 2 Further maths: Teaching of syllabus, as her school will not cover some topics. Tailored to her learning style, providing homework each lesson to consolidate the content.
Teaching style & philosophy:
My tutoring style focuses on tailoring sessions to the students' individual needs and learning styles. I recognise that every student is different, and I strive to constantly evaluate student engagement and adapt my methods accordingly, whether that is including more visual learning techniques, interactive exercises, or providing comprehensive notes. I also closely monitor the students performance in different topics, using small quizzes or self-assessment techniques, which allows me to identify weak areas to focus on.
I take a more guided approach to tutoring, helping the student solve problems on their own, pointing them in the right direction, or giving them hints when needed, which creates a more active learning environment, and builds confidence more effectively than a traditional classroom.
One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is helping a student become enthusiastic about a subject, so I try to bring as much enthusiasm to each session. I explain complex concepts in a simple, intuitive manner, and if needed in providing multiple different ways to view it, and I relate them to real world scenarios to help the student know why we are learning a certain topic.
However, to me the most important aspect is to be empathetic and patient to every student. Building trust and a good communication provides an openness that encourages dialogue and willingness to make mistakes, which are essential to learning.
Additional information:
Along with GCSE and A-level, I am prepared to aid students with Oxbridge applications (subject discussions, personal statement writing, Physics Aptitude Test preparation, and interview preparation. As a graduate from the University of Oxford, I am familiar with the required knowledge and techniques to succeed.
I am based in Brixton, London, and I am willing to teach students across London.
