Teaching and tutoring experience
From September 2019 to June 2021, I was self-employed as a tutor in London, England. During this time, I tutored multiple students aged eight to sixteen years old both in person and online with Zoom and Microsoft Whiteboard. In this time, I was able to raise the maths grade of one GCSE student at Latimer from a C to an A. The subjects I covered included Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Spanish, as well as Common Entrance exam Preparations. Additionally, in my role as Arts Technology Staff at UChicago, I have been responsible for providing students with operational training and assistance in realising their artistic designs for a variety of wood and metal working machines. This role has sharpened my attentiveness and greatly improved my ability to communicate with skills.
Teaching style and philosophy
My teaching approach focuses on empathising with my students. I prioritise creating a supportive atmosphere that fosters open communication, which I believe is crucial for keeping students engaged. I employ a variety of practice problems, written and oral, while encouraging students to articulate their thought processes, allowing me to pinpoint areas for improvement. As a student myself, I understand the tendency among students to sometimes feign understanding. Therefore, my teaching approach prioritises moving at a manageable pace and ensuring each student feels seen.
