BACKGROUND
I am an experienced Director of Sport with a teaching background in England and
international experience in Uzbekistan, Oman, Malaysia, Argentina, Mongolia and
Switzerland. Last year I returned to England and am currently teaching PE at Sussex
House, a prestigious prep school for boys in Sloane Square, London.
I have played professional cricket and also coached cricket professionally at various
levels from beginners to internationals. I have been teaching (predominantly secondary
level but also primary) and coaching for over 25 years and beyond sport have also been
a Deputy Head and Housemaster and have successfully managed large numbers of
staff and pupils.
I have a First Class Honours degree in Sport Science, a variety of coaching
qualifications in various sports and am a 200hr certified yoga teacher. I have also played
semi-professional Kent League football. I enjoy being active, like to keep fit, and
nowadays like to go trekking and practise yoga/movement when time allows. I speak tidy
Spanish, some French, and am a beginner in Russian.

GENERAL
Most recently at ESM (The English School of Mongolia) in addition to teaching some
curriculum PE I have been involved in various school development projects, the main
ones being the opening of an English School of Uzbekistan in Tashkent and the
organisation and management of a residential course for Grade 10-12 ESM students in
Thailand. The former included several trips to Tashkent to meet potential partners and
research possible sites. At the time of writing the project is soon to be confirmed. The
latter was an ambitious plan to escape the harsh Mongolian winter cold and pollution,
essentially picking up 140 pupils and 25 staff and transporting them to Rayong, Thailand
for an extensive 3 week residential course of academic study and extra-curricular
activities. What could possibly go wrong! The trip in January 2023 was a great adventure
for all involved and thankfully all participants returned safely to Mongolia with many fond
memories. Also at ESM I have revised and broadened the PE curriculum, including the
introduction of IB Sport Science and IGCSE PE.
In Zuoz I re-established the School’s Cricket week and in Muscat I was Director of Sport
across 4 sites containing 2500 pupils (KG1 to 11), introducing the ECA programme as a
key part of school life and forging close links with the Oman FA and Tennis Association.
When Head of Boys’ Sport at St Edmund’s I helped to create a sporting culture which
resulted in several national football successes and the school punching well above its
weight in sport for a decade.
I was a professional cricketer for 6 seasons with two first class counties and despite only
limited 1st XI appearances I was fortunate enough to play with and against many of the
best players of the generation. I also played in South Africa for 2 seasons and coached
in Australia for another. Away from cricket I played club football (huffing and puffing) for
many years and coached Canterbury City in the Kent League for a few.

PERSONAL
I am motivated, enjoy teaching and coaching, and like a challenge. I have climbed Mount
Kinabalu and The Pinnacles in Borneo, and have trekked in various locations worldwide
including the Gobi Desert and Altai Mountains in Mongolia, the Argentinian Sierra, the
deserts of Oman and the Swiss Alps. I have plodded around two London Marathons and
cycled across England twice. I am patient and caring, remain energetic even at 56, have
a decent sense of humour and am a good communicator. I would hope to be an asset to
any school.
