Teaching and tutoring experience
I am currently a Maths teacher at Eton College. I have 2 years of private tutoring in mathematics and philosophy at GCSE and A-Level. I tutored one pupil to pass 13+ exams for Oundle school. Currently tutoring one boy who has got through to the final rounds of the 11+ entrance of Westminster Under School and City of London School.
Teaching style and philosophy
I try to teach in a fashion which makes my students feel comfortable and secure. I think this is critical for them to feel able to strive towards the highest educational goals we can dream up together. Learning as a process requires failure - even on a biological level, as it turns out - and so I aim to make my students feel comfortable striving and failing in my tutorials, so that they succeed outside of them.
I teach either maths or philosophy (or both!) I emphasise the deep conceptual aspects of the material being learnt so as to give my students the best understanding they are capable of. Over the course of my education I have found this is by far the best approach to learning complicated and abstract material. Furthermore, I think learning this method - synthesising large difficult theories into a few deep conceptual points - is an invaluable skill for all walks of life.
Additional information
I do a lot of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in my spare time and I am currently based in Oxford. I usually teach online with an interactive whiteboard, but I would also be happy to teach in most places in Oxford.
