Teaching history:

I began tutoring through the company Sierra Tuition, working with them from October 2017 to September 2018. I helped struggling students to overcome difficulties they faced with homework with particular focus on weaker topics. I tutored three different people over an extended period of time. My biggest achievement was helping someone, who had year 8 level maths when I started working with them in year 11, to pass their GCSEs. After this I transitioned to private tutoring, teaching students over a range of levels, from 11+ to A levels. I did this through in-person house visits in South West London. When I moved to Manchester in 2019 for University I stopped doing in person tutoring and began doing all of my tutoring through zoom and microsoft teams. I teach both physics and maths.

Teaching style & philosophy:

I believe that a good understanding of scientific content and how science works is crucial to our understanding of our place in the world. This does not necessarily mean I believe everyone should have to have the highest grades imaginable (though if someone has the talent, hard-work, and desire then they should aim as highly as possible). Instead I believe that a grasp of the fundamental processes of both physics and maths at any level will give someone a great advantage in life and an appreciation for how the world works. This is what I aim to impart in my students. I have over 5 years experience tutoring students in Maths and Physics over a wide age-range. I am a personable tutor who looks to develop a positive student-teacher relationship. I understand how to recognise and improve  students’  weaknesses whilst solidifying their strengths through repetition, reinforcement and targeted advice. With patience and communication I will try to get the best out of a student; to understand how they work, what they need, and how I can accomplish that effectively.

Additional information:

I was a participant in the PASS scheme at the University of Manchester, a voluntary scheme in which second year students would help first year students once a week to solve any academic issues they may have had. It was very beneficial to help nurture peers, both academically and with other issues they may have had. Relationships developed as important as the academic problems themselves. I have had a number of jobs in hospitality over the years, which have helped me to develop my teamwork in some intensive work environments. I also had develop skills in customer relationships. To be as good at your job as possible it's import  to maintain good relationships with customers. In terms of personal interests I am a keen home cook. I Find it very calming and mindful working practically towards a concrete goal that rewards with pleasure for friends and family. I love to travel and have spent 6 months in South America this year. I have played guitar since I was a child and played bass in a band at school, although you could never describe my talent as anything above decent. I am an avid follower of football, however I spent most of my teenage years playing field hockey up to county level. I support Liverpool F.C. I am currently only available for online sessions, however in the next few weeks I should be available for in-person sessions around Southwest London, being based in Teddington, Richmond upon Thames.
