Anxiety Busters for Kids #2
It’s a sad fact that children today are more stressed than ever before. And if they don’t learn healthy ways to manage their stress, it can have both short-term and longer-term consequences.
We’re sharing kid-friendly stress busters to avoid implications that could eventually lead to depression in later life.
Today’s approach is melting the tension:
Tell your child to make their body feel stiff and straight like a wooden soldier so that every bone from their head to toe is “tense” (or “stressed”). Now tell them to make their body limp (or “relaxed”) like a rag doll or windsock. Once they realise they can make themselves relax, they can find the spot in their body where they feel the most tension; perhaps their neck, shoulder muscles, or jaw. They then should close their eyes, concentrate on the spot, tense it up for three or four seconds, and then let it go. While doing so, tell your child to imagine the stress slowly melting away from the top of their head and out their toes until they feel relaxed or calmer.
